Introduction – Why This Changes Everything

A Vision Board is not a decorative wish list. It is one of the most powerful self-clarifying exercises you can do. The act of creating it, of sitting down, getting still, and choosing what genuinely lights you up, is itself a declaration. It is the moment you stop quietly hoping and start consciously directing. You are, in the most real sense, announcing to the divine, to the universe, to yourself, or to whatever you choose to call that greater force, exactly what you are ready to welcome into your life.

And that act alone carries enormous power.

This is not about forcing outcomes or drawing up a five-year plan. It is about getting honest with yourself about what you actually want. When you name it, truly name it with feeling, you begin to move differently. You notice different things. You make different choices. Life begins to organise itself around your clarity.

The process itself is the first and most important step. You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to be willing to look honestly at what your heart is pointing to.

Because ultimately, concentrating on what you love through the creation of your vision board is bringing love into the world. That is the whole point of your being.

Why the Heart Matters — The Science Behind It

This process is heart-led, and that is not just a poetic idea. There is compelling science behind why the heart and mind working together, not the mind alone, is our most reliable guidance system.

What the Research Shows

The HeartMath Institute has spent decades studying the physiology and intelligence of the heart. Some of the most striking findings include:

  • The heart generates an electromagnetic field approximately 100 times stronger in amplitude than the brain’s field, and this field can be detected several feet outside the body.
  • The heart sends more information to the brain than the brain sends to the heart. The communication pathway is primarily upward, heart to brain, which means the heart actively shapes our mental and emotional state.
  • When we enter a state of heart coherence, a calm, appreciative, or loving emotional state, the brain literally functions differently. Clarity improves, decision-making sharpens, and creativity expands.
  • Conversely, when we are stressed or in a reactive mental state, the brain’s higher functions are inhibited. We default to pattern-based, fear-driven thinking rooted in past experience.

Vision Board

This last point is crucial to understand when working with your Vision Board.

Your analytical mind, the part that deals in logic, probability, and past experience, will work hard to pull you back to what it already knows. It will remind you of every reason something won’t work, every limitation you’ve accepted as permanent. This is not your enemy. It is simply doing its job.

But when you drop into a genuine heart-feeling state, focused on what you genuinely love, the brain responds entirely differently. Research into what neuroscientist Dr. Lisa Miller calls the awakened brain shows that when we focus on what we love and feel called toward, whole networks across the brain activate together, expanding perception, creativity, and our sense of what’s possible. The grip of old patterns loosens. A broader perspective opens up.

Neuroscience also confirms something remarkable: the brain cannot reliably distinguish between a real experience and one that is vividly imagined. The same neural circuits fire either way. This means that when you hold your vision with genuine feeling, your brain and body begin to respond as if it is already on its way, because, neurologically, it already is.

It is a neurological and energetic state that the body actively recognises.

Step 1 — Write: Opening Your Heart

Setting the Scene

  • Eliminate distractions, phone on silent, calls diverted, door closed if needed
  • Put on music that helps you settle the mind
  • Blue Align Chiro Spotify Playlist
  • Take a few slow breaths and arrive in the moment

Opening the Heart

If you have done Integrated Energy Therapy, this is a perfect time to use the Heart Link technique, beginning with gratitude to bring your attention fully into the heart.

If you haven’t done IET, HeartMath offers a simple and powerful approach – refer to link below in Resources. Begin by becoming aware of your heart and directing your breath as if it is flowing in toward the heart. From there, you can open the heart using any of the following, or a combination of all of them:

  • Think of something you are genuinely grateful for and let that feeling settle in your chest
  • Or bring to mind someone you have unconditional love for, a partner, child, friend, pet, and let that warmth build
  • Or think of things you genuinely love to do, things that don’t feel like work

Cultivate that love feeling. Let it grow and fill your chest.

This is the essential part. We are building the feeling of love flowing into the heart. It can take some practice, but it is the crucial part of this process.

Start Writing

From this heart-centred space, begin writing. Use these headings as a starting point and write what you want underneath each one. It could be point form, it could be paragraphs, however you naturally like to write:

  • Family and relationships
  • Vocation and work
  • Things you love to do
  • Health
  • Abundance and financial freedom
  • Travel and experiences
  • Contribution and purpose

If this feels like a lot, just start with one to three areas. There is no pressure to cover everything at once. Come back to it. What matters is that you begin.

A good place to start is with the areas where you feel the most uncertainty, or where you feel you have the least. Often, that is exactly where you want the most, and more than that, it is frequently the thing you are most here to step into with your vision board.

When I was first introduced to energy healing, my immediate reaction was almost one of stepping back. How could I possibly do that? It seemed beyond me entirely. And yet it became the thing I love beyond anything else I do.

I believe this is true for everyone. When you move toward the very thing that seems impossible or out of reach, that is where your superpower lives. That is the lesson you are here to unravel. All the wisdom and growth you need is waiting on the other side of that thing you don’t yet believe is possible for you.

Step 2 — Finding Images

Once you have your written intentions, it’s time to find images that bring them to life. Stay in your heart state as you search and let feeling, not logic, be your guide.

What You’re Looking For

You are not looking for a literal photograph of your desired outcome. You are looking for an image that evokes the feeling of it.

For example, if you want to travel more, you would not necessarily choose a photo of a specific destination, because once you’ve visited, it may no longer represent that desire. Instead, look for something that captures the feeling of freedom, adventure, or wonder that travel gives you. Something more universal. Something that will still resonate in five years.

The feeling is the confirmation. When something makes your heart jump, when there is an unmistakable inner “yes,” that is your signal. Keep going until you find things you absolutely love. Don’t settle. Don’t be reasonable. Trust your intuition.

Where to Find Images

The traditional method of cutting images from magazines can be charming, but it is limited in scope. A more expansive approach:

  • Type your written statements or desires into Google Images and scroll through until something resonates.
  • Collect the images that speak to you and paste them into a Word document.
  • Print them in colour, cut them out, and they’re ready for your vision board.

A mix of imagery often works beautifully, symbols, words, abstract photographs, images of people, places, qualities, feelings. Include things you have created or painted if they resonate. Make it genuinely yours.

Step 3 — Creating the Vision Board

This is a creative expression of your life. You are taking all the individual elements that light you up and bringing them together into an artistic vision, one that is entirely your own. Follow where you are guided.

Materials

You don’t need anything expensive or elaborate. I started with a large roll of paper from Spotlight, cut to size and stuck on the back of my door with blu-tack, purely because I wanted plenty of space and no constraints on where things could go. Paper is good in this way, it doesn’t confine you to a fixed canvas.

If you prefer something more permanent, a large canvas from Spotlight (around $15-20) works beautifully once your vision has settled.

Laying It Out

Before attaching anything, lay all your images out somewhere flat, a bed, a floor, a table. Spend time with them. Move things around. Notice how it feels when elements are near each other, or apart.

You may be surprised at how naturally things organise themselves. There is often a sense of flow, of things belonging together in a way that simply feels right. Trust that. You are not constructing a plan. You are expressing a vision.

Over Time

Your Vision Board is not a finished product. It is a living thing. As you move through your journey you may find certain images or symbols begin to represent milestones or lessons along the way. Add them. Let the board grow with you.

Step 4 — Revisit Regularly

Creating your Vision Board is just the beginning. The real depth and real transformation happens in the returning to it.

The Analog Advantage

While digital vision boards exist and are certainly better than none, there is something uniquely powerful about a physical board. We are working to bring things into physical reality, and there is a resonance in engaging with something tangible, something you have touched, arranged, and placed with intention. That said, do what works for you. What matters most is that you actually visit it.

How to Revisit

Each time you return to your board, begin by settling back into your heart space. Play some quiet music. Breathe. Arrive in a state of calm and gratitude before you look.

You don’t need long. Even a few minutes is meaningful. Visualise each element coming into you. Feel as though you already have the energy of these things in your life, not as fantasy, but as a genuine energetic state that your body can register and respond to.

Energy Practices to Deepen the Process

For those familiar with Integrated Energy Therapy, the Heart Net and Heart Link processes are extraordinarily effective alongside the Vision Board. These techniques allow you to energetically connect to the elements of your board and bring that energy into your heart, deepening your coherence and your embodied sense of your vision. I did these practices every night for a year and a half, and the shifts that followed were remarkable.

Your Guidance System

Over time you will begin to notice a feeling in your heart when you are moving in the right direction. That is your confirmation. That warmth, that quiet certainty, that is your guidance system. Learn to recognise it. Trust it.

The Vision Board process has a way of surfacing everything that gets in the way, the fears, the old patterns, the self-imposed limitations. In that way it is not just a tool for attracting what you want. It is a map of what needs to be worked through. Each obstacle that surfaces is part of the journey, not evidence that the journey is wrong.

Do this regularly. A few minutes is enough. Let it show you the way.
